You will be responsible for your own portfolio of customers and/or line of business. You will have a passion for underwriting and delivering results through underwriting performance. Underwriters within the company handle several lines of business, offering a truly bespoke and personalised service to customers and brokers across the UK. This is an excellent and unique opportunity for someone who wants to further their career as an Underwriter.
You will underwrite and negotiate renewals and new business through a designated group of brokers. Deliver the key financial metrics for your portfolio of customers (NWP, Combined Ratio and Loss Ratio). Oversee the analysis of various data sources to produce recommendations for pricing and underwriting footprint. Work closely with actuarial, finance and claims teams to understand the underlying performance trends of your portfolio. Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in products and industry. Recommend and implement action plans after reviewing agency books of business and profit/growth results and trends.
Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents and brokers) in support of business retention and acquisition and work with customers and distributors (agents & brokers) to determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions. Will possess excellent interpersonal, team building, and organisational skills. Strong personal leadership and influencing skills. To develop and oversee performance improvement plans for brokers across own area of business to drive business results.
A strong foundation in a market/technical underwriting role gained within the broker market working either for an MGA or an insurance company. At least 3 years senior underwriting experience. The ability to engage and negotiate with key partners and brokers. Good analytical skills together with commercial acumen. High quality negotiating and influencing skills. Fluent communication skills. Experience of managing performance and negotiating with brokers. A strong sense of customer centricity. Committed to personal development. A results focused individual will perform well in this role. Completion or progression towards Chartered Insurance Institute Qualification (Associate/Fellowship).
