Job Profile

This Interim position is a 6-12-month role whilst the business sources the permanent candidate. Reporting to the Board, the Interim Chief Underwriting Officer will develop, lead and manage all technical underwriting and pricing activities in the business. They will develop and implement a strategy which delivers sustainable growth both within existing products and distribution and new products, considering new and emerging markets and technology. The role will need to consider the customer in all aspects of all activities undertaken to ensure that the business is focused on fair outcomes and that products and services offered offer value for money.

Will be responsible for defining the underwriting strategy that will generate profitable business growth in current and future products & markets. Responsible for pricing of all products, including the development of pricing templates, with ongoing monitoring, refinement and control.  Will establish appropriate internal underwriting procedures and criteria to manage risk. Review the underwriting systems, recommending and implementing any agreed improvements. Manage and develop insurer relationships. Reviewing existing products, services and markets with a focus on tomorrow's world activities.

Championing and leading each new product development, from innovation through to successful implementation across each business function, to enable it to become a core part of the business. Liaising with relevant internal departments to ensure that customer needs are met and that customer requirements are fully communicated throughout the business. Communicating with all major stakeholders to achieve business objectives. Working with all colleagues to maintain and develop the positive progressive culture. 

 

 

Applicant Requirements

Must be an experienced General Insurance professional with a proven track record of delivering underwriting profit.  Strong leadership skills and experience.  A credible and confident communicator (written and verbal) at all levels. Expert negotiating and influencing skills. Proven strategic aptitude and ability.  Tenacious and results driven with sound business judgement. Passionate about achieving high levels of excellence, commercially astute and customer focused. Numerate with strong analytical and problem-solving ability. A hands-on approach, with a 'can-do' attitude,  the ability to prioritise, demonstrating first class organisational skills and time management skills. Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to work accurately in a busy and demanding environment.
