Technical Claims Handler

Positions exist within this major insurer in both their Leeds and Glasgow offices for a Technical Claims Handler to deal with a portfolio of losses resulting from mainly escape of water, fire and flood losses.  You will be expected to review digital evidence live from the insureds house with an on site technician.  You will be responsible for agreeing immediate actions and taking steps to mitigate the losses.  It will be then down to you to agree a drying scope with the contractor and compile a building scope for reinstatement and agree settlement either by repairs or cash settlement.  There will be plenty of training opportunities available and future progression within this growing unit.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate  previous experience dealing with the reinstatement of buildings related losses and would ideally suit a loss adjuster who is seeking an internal role.  You must have excellent communication and customer service skills and a qualification such as BDMA would be desirable, but not essential.

Having a minimum of 3-5 years experience of handling EL and PL injury and TPPD claims you will :

  • Investigate allocated claims from the desk where appropriate, establishing how and why events occurred and the legal liabilities which may arise
  • Obtain all necessary evidence and relevant documentation including detailed statements from witnesses and other informative sources 
  • Maintain a full knowledge of client requirements by referral to documented procedures and adhere to them at all times
  • Negotiate settlement where appropriate, in accordance with authority limits
  • Ensure that costs are kept to a minimum
  • Keep yourself updated on any technical or legal changes which may have a bearing on the claims. You may be called upon to attend or participate in company training programmes.
